Veneers Q & A

What are veneers?

Veneers are a type of dental treatment used to improve the appearance of your teeth. They’re shells made of thin porcelain that look like your teeth and cover up any imperfections.

The team at Dentistry at Grayhawk enjoys seeing the big smiles they get after putting veneers on patients’ teeth as well as the huge confidence boost patients feel after they view their new smile.

What types of conditions can veneers fix?

Veneers can address several teeth-related imperfections and conditions, including:

  • Discoloration and staining
  • Chipped and cracked teeth
  • Gaps
  • Decayed teeth

How are veneers placed on the teeth?

Placement of veneers may require a few visits to Dentistry at Grayhawk. During the first visit, the dental specialists analyze your mouth and teeth to determine if you’re a good candidate for veneers.

You come back to the office to begin preparation for veneer placement. During preparation, Dr. Ata-Abadi removes a thin layer of enamel from your teeth to make room for the porcelain veneer. Then, a mold of your teeth is made and used to create your customized veneers.

Once your veneers are ready, you return to the office for placement. Dr. Ata-Abadi uses a special bonding glue and composite light for a secure fit. A week after placement, you may come in for an evaluation to see how you’re doing with your new smile.

How do I take care of veneers at home?

You should care for your veneers the same way you care for your regular teeth, which means daily brushing and flossing. However, Dr. Bahar and Dr. Kamran recommend that you use non-abrasive fluoride toothpaste to prevent scratches.

Regular checkups and cleanings are also recommended to help keep your veneers clean and to monitor for potential problems. The Dentistry at Grayhawk team uses a non-abrasive polishing toothpaste when cleaning your veneers and teeth.

If you’re a teeth grinder, Drs. Ata-Abadi may fit you with a mouth guard to protect your veneers from damage at night while you’re sleeping.

If you’re ready to show off a great smile confidently, call the office or book an appointment online for a veneers consultation.
