Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an advanced teeth straightening system that uses clear aligners to align your teeth gradually. Invisalign uses a special heat-activated plastic referred to as SmartTrack® that’s gentle on your mouth but strong enough to move teeth.

The aligners are nearly invisible and sit at your gum line, often going unnoticed by friends and family. And unlike traditional braces, Invisalign aligners aren’t fixed to your teeth, which means you can remove them to eat, brush, and floss.

What types of conditions can Invisalign fix?

Invisalign clear aligners can fix almost any misalignment, including:

  • Overbite and underbite
  • Open bite or crossbite
  • Gapped or crowded teeth
  • General teeth straightening

The Dentistry at Grayhawk team must first conduct a thorough examination of your mouth to determine if Invisalign is the best choice for you. While this revolutionary treatment can fix almost any issue, it may not work for everyone.

What can I expect with Invisalign?

After determining that Invisalign is a good option for you, the expert team at Dentistry at Grayhawk takes digital images of your mouth to set up your aligner treatment plan. The digital imaging allows you to see exactly how your teeth move into their new position.

Once the treatment plan has been established, your doctor sends it to the lab to create your customized set of aligners. You wear each set of aligners in succession as recommended, usually switching to the next set every two weeks.

While you can remove your aligners at any time, Dr. Bahar and Dr. Kamran recommend that you wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours every day to get the best results.

How long does Invisalign take to straighten teeth?

Treatment time varies from patient to patient, but if you wear your aligners as recommended, you should have your new, straight smile within 18 months. After you’ve completed Invisalign, the specialists at Dentistry at Grayhawk provide a retainer to help keep your teeth in position.
