General and Preventative Dentistry
Your teeth are covered with a thin film of bacteria called plaque. The bacteria convert sugars and starch into harmful acids that attack your tooth enamel and repeated attacks may cause the enamel to break down, resulting in cavities. Regular brushing and flossing help remove some of the plaque, however, tiny fissures in your teeth are too small for the toothbrush bristles to reach. These tiny pits and fissures are especially prone to decay and this is where most cavities initially start. Sealants protect these vulnerable areas by coating the pits and fissures and sealing out the plaque and food. Sealants are also a great way to stop small areas of decay from spreading and becoming larger.

Sealants
Sealants are not just for children either. People of all ages can benefit from sealants, and prevention is definitely better than treatment so please ask us if sealants are right for you. In the long run, proper oral hygiene combined with preventative dentistry such as sealants will save you a tremendous amount of money and discomfort. We look forward to your next visit!

Crown and Bridge Procedures
A crown is an artificial cap that covers a tooth to restore it to its normal shape and size. It strengthens and improves the overall look of the tooth and are placed to protect weak teeth from fracturing, restore fractured teeth, cover discolored teeth, and many other reasons. Crowns are made from a number of materials and both the look and function of the crown are taken into consideration so that we can use the most suitable material for each situation.

Bridge
The placement of a crown is a very precise procedure which usually takes a couple of visits for completion. We prepare the tooth by removing its outer layer and then the crown is made specifically to fit over the remaining portion of your tooth. When the crown arrives from the lab, we place it into position and make any necessary adjustments before it is cemented into place. Once the crown is in place, you can treat it as if it were a normal tooth and continue your daily brushing and flossing routine. To find out if a crown is right for you please call us at (480) 513-2773 or ask one of the doctors at your next visit.
Periodontal (gum) Treatments
Periodontal diseases are infections that affect the tissues and bone that support the teeth. As the tissues become damaged, they form pockets around the base of the teeth and lead to bone loss. If it is left untreated, periodontal disease may eventually lead to tooth loss. It is possible to have periodontal disease without any apparent signs or symptoms. Only regular dental checkups can tell you if you have or are at risk of this disease. Some common symptoms are:
- Gums that bleed easily
- Red, swollen, tender gums
- Gums that have pulled away from the teeth
- Persistent bad breath
- Loose or separating teeth

Periodontal Treatments
Periodontal treatments vary depending on the type and severity of the disease. If the disease is caught very early, when it is still gingivitis, it may be as simple as just improving your oral hygiene routine. If your disease is more severe, the first step is usually a special cleaning, called scaling and root planning which removes plaque and tarter from the teeth and roots. This helps the gums heal naturally but it may take more than one visit to make sure that the entire mouth is cleaned. If your disease has progressed to the point of bone loss, we may refer you to a periodontist and your treatment may require surgery to repair the damage. Once the disease has been treated, we will monitor your progress during your next visits to make sure that your gums are returning to their normal state. Please call us at (480) 513-2773 or talk to your doctor at your next visit if you think you might be at risk.
